The Herbarium of the University of Bologna is one of Europe’s most ancient herbaria. In it are preserved collections of dried plants (exsiccata) from the 16th century onwards. It presently contains approximately 110,000 such plants. The creation of a complete computer-based catalogue of all the collections is underway. Amongst these, some historical collections, such as the one of Ulisse Aldrovandi dating back to the 16th century, are noteworthy.

The collections can be consulted for study purposes Monday through Friday. It is necessary to make an appointment with the Curator Dr. A. Managlia.
The Museum of Botany has on display items taken from the most interesting collections. It is open to the public Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. For guided visits, please contact the Curator.
