The Museum arose on 1908 with Prof. Fabio Frassetto and it was reorganized and opened to all on 1991 with Prof. Fiorenzo Facchini.
In the Museum are preserved many collections having scientific and education values. Osteological and osteoarchaeological finds coming from many Italian sites from Neolithic to historical periods, a non-human Primate collection with 114 pieces, many moulds of pre-human and human fossils that document the human evolution and prehistoric cultures are preserved.

A multimedia aids "The long way of Man” supplies the first section referred to the human evolution allowing to better understand the paleoanthropological studies. A Cd-rom “The Bioarchaeology. The human skeleton as historical document” illustrates the topic of the bioarchaeological and forensic studies giving information about the “reading” of the skeleton in order to understand the life style of the ancient populations.
In a second section many anthropological instruments are collected and shown. In the third part "Man and Environment” some collections of moulds of faces and busts of different human populations are shown. Some diorama that explain the human-environment relationship in different geographical and cultural conditions, supply this section.
Recently there is a permanent exhibition of a yurta, a dwelling of the nomad people of the Euro-Asiatic steppes.
